Teflon powder (PTFE) - a registered trade mark of the DuPont, is a very fine, white powder used in many applications. Most involve increased slip and slide and friction reduction.

For the DIY home-owner and boat person, powdered teflon (tm) has several uses when combined with epoxy resin systems. Mixed into epoxy it is suspended in the resin system. Thus, as the epoxy weathers or wears, it exposes more teflon and the surface becomes smoother and more slippery - rather than rougher as is generally the case when epoxy weathers.

It is an alternative to cheaper, and more messy, graphite powder, albeit at a higher cost. (see graphite link below).

I meet a semi professional boat builder that claimed adding teflon to his epoxy resin produced a tougher, non yellowing surface. This is speculation as I cannot see any explanation for this. . .
