Very fine grain copper powder has several uses in the DIY marketplace. This fine powder is sold by the pound. Because the powder mix contains a lot of air one pound of copper powder fills approximately a one pint container. The copper powder has a coating on it that renders it non conductive if you stuck an electrical probe into it. This helps keep the copper from turning into a massive green lump during storage in humid conditions. People report that a mild acid wash removes the coating.

Common Uses of Copper Powder:

MARINE - people mix the copper powder into epoxy resins to produce a copper based coating that is then applied to boat hulls. This is a modern attempt to reproduce the copper sheeted bottoms of boats used to slow or prevent marine growth on the hull. It is a modern, safe (albeit somewhat experimental) approach to a modern marine anti fouling coating (bottom paint). Note that once applied the finish is sanded to remove the epoxy covering of the top layer of copper powder grains and thus expose the actual copper to the marine underwater environment. CRAFTS - Mixed with varnish or some other clear coating it works as a pigment producing a copper paint. It will tarnish over time unless more clear coat product is applied over it. The bird house picture below is an example of this.
